Jailbreak 7.1 Tethered on iPhone 4 Tutorial using GeekSn0w

– Today, while a vast number of jailbreakers across the globe are still recovering from Apple’s evasi0n7-patching iOS 7.1 firmware release, popular jailbreak tutorial YouTuber iCrackUriDevice created and released a new video tutorial on how to jailbreak 7.1 on the iPhone 4 using GeekSn0w. The new GeekSn0w for iOS 7.1 utility is based on developer winocm’s opensn0w project that utilizes Geohot’s now-outdated limera1n bootrom exploit from 2010. Unfortunately, in light of that fact, GeekSn0w’s support doesn’t extend beyond the iPhone 4 and, in a sense, it’s nothing new. While incredible, GeekSn0w is simply a modified and updated version of opensn0w and Geohot’s work from four years ago to achieve a Tethered iOS 7.1 jailbreak. The steps outlined in this written jailbreak 7.1 tutorial will function on both GSM and CDMA iPhone 4 models running iOS 7.1 – newer iDevice owners should refer to and use our UnTethered iOS 7.0.6 evasi0n tutorial if possible.

Jailbreak 7.1 Tethered GeekSn0w

As mentioned above, the GeekSn0w jailbreak 7.1 utility is compatible with the following iPhone models on iOS 7.1:

  • iPhone 4 GSM (AT&T and Global editions)
  • iPhone 4 GSM Revision A
  • iPhone 4 CDMA (Verizon)

Furthermore, in light of the iOS 7.1 jailbreak’s “Tethered” nature, iPhone 4 owners will be required to boot their devices Tethered every time the power is cycled. Now that you’re aware of the obvious limitations of GeekSn0w, you can continue with this tutorial to achieve a Tethered 7.1 jailbreak on your iPhone 4.

Paramount Jailbreak 7.1 Prerequisite Instructions

Before continuing with this Tethered jailbreak, ensure that you have the following:

  • An iPhone 4 on iOS 7.1 (Apple’s latest public firmware).
  • The GeekSn0w utility for Windows, Java Development Kit for 32-bit PCs, .NET Framework and the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer, all of which can be found in the download section of this article.

How To Jailbreak 7.1 Tethered Using GeekSn0w, Written And Video Tutorials

  1. Download GeekSn0w and all of the necessary files from our download section, listed below, to ensure that you have a genuine version of the utility.
  2. Once JDK (Java Development Kit) has been installed successfully, right click on the GeekSn0w executable and run the program as an administrator.
  3. Connect your iPhone 4 to your computer via a standard 30-pin USB cable and enter DFU mode by holding down both the home and power buttons for a total of ten seconds. Once ten seconds has passed, release the power button and continue holding the home button for an additional ten to fifteen seconds.
  4. Inside of GeekSn0w, click “Jailbreak” and select your specific iPhone model (as mentioned above, either GSM, GSM Revision A or CDMA). If you’re not certain which iPhone model you own, you can find additional information on Apple’s dedicated support page.
  5. Leave your iPhone connected to your computer and enter DFU mode when prompted to by GeekSn0w; refer to the third step if you require assistance for DFU mode. After the iPhone 4 reboots, the GeekSn0w utility will cause the device to auto-boot after approximately two minutes when it finishes the jailbreak process, requiring you to enter DFU mode for a third time (again, refer to the third step for assistance).
  6. Once the final reboot has finished, the iPhone 4 will have Cydia – however, it won’t be fully usable until it resprings, which is an automatic step that occurs after every reboot.
  • Note: as mentioned in the opening paragraphs of this jailbreak tutorial, you will need to boot your iPhone Tethered with GeekSn0w after every reboot.

Congratulations, after following just six basic and easy-to-comprehend steps, you’ve successfully jailbroken your iPhone 4 on iOS 7.1.
