iBoot Jailbreak 7.1 UnTethered Exploit Unusable, Next Jailbreak Detailed

As the majority of our readers are aware, when Apple released iOS 7.1 to the general public, the company effectively closed a number of vulnerabilities that the world-renowned evasi0n7 utility exploited to achieve an UnTethered jailbreak on iOS 7.0 through 7.0.6, making it impossible for the public to jailbreak 7.1 with evasi0n. Following the March 10^th iOS 7.1 patch of the evasion jailbreak, well-known iOS hacker iH8sn0w began discussing an iBoot exploit for A5-powered devices (namely the iPhone 4S), that could potentially be applied towards another Untethered jailbreak utility. However, that’s not necessarily the case and since last month, there’s been a considerable amount of clamor and confusion regarding iH8sn0w’s alleged 7.1 and up iBoot exploit; today, we’ll set the record straight.

iOS 7.1 iBoot Jailbreak Exploit Unusable

The day following 7.1′s release, famed evad3rs Dev Team member MuscleNerd confirmed on Twitter that the “bug @ih8sn0w talks about is *worthless* for jailbreaks and downgrades. It runs only on a device already jailbroken”.

Ensuing MuscleNerd’s abrupt and swift shutdown of iH8sn0w’s claims of a potential new jailbreak tool that relies heavily on the aforementioned iBoot exploit, iH8sn0w again reignited the hopes of jailbreakers everywhere by stating that his personal iPhone 4S is jailbroken on iOS 7.1.

However, it’s important to realize that essentially all jailbreak developers have the potential to achieve a jailbreak on any firmware (regardless of its public jailbreak status) by way of a failbreak, which is essentially a jailbreak method that utilizes an Apple Developer account to achieve root access, making it impossible to release to the public.

Furthermore, following iH8sn0w’s tweet regarding his iPhone, the developer clarified that he has no intention of creating a “7.1/8″ jailbreak. The iPhone 4S iH8sn0w was referring to was likely jailbroken utilizing a failbreak method.

With that said, there won’t be another public jailbreak utility until after Apple releases both iOS 8 and the company’s next round of iDevices. The evad3rs simply aren’t keen on wasting precious exploits to jailbreak a firmware that the public was warned to avoid months before its release – the team wants to ensure that the vulnerabilities they’ve spent months discovering and testing are put to good use.

However, with WWDC 2014 (Apple’s annual World Wide Developer’s Conference) scheduled to take place next month, the evad3rs, as well as the entire world, will get glimpse at what the team is up against.
