Freighter retained: Iran says Maersk should a fine of US $ 3.6 million

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, has expressed today from New York that Iran is committed to release the vessel, flagged in the Marshall Islands. "The Persian Gulf is our lifeline, we will respect international navigation", said the minister, according to Reuters.
 
The Danish shipping company Maersk has reiterated its call on Iran to release the 24 crew of the American ship that was caught on Tuesday while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.
 
Maersk confirmed Thursday that the incident is related to a legal dispute with a charge not collected in Dubai. The case dates back to 2005 and since then has had several comings and goings. According to the Danish company, they agreed to pay US $ 163,000, but a new ruling (hitherto unknown) raised the amount to $ 3.6 million.
 
"As we have no details of this latest ruling, we can not say anything. At the moment we can not speculate about our options," he said through a statement.
 
The Danish shipping group A.P. Moeller-Maersk said today that the crew of a freighter detained by Iran is safe and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark is working with the company to find solutions.
 
"We are working at full speed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Maersk Tigris and we are in dialogue with Maersk on the case," said a ministry statement quoted by the Danish news agency Ritzau.
 
The ministry said it expected Iran to meet its international obligations.
 
"Our clear expectation is that Iran meets its international obligations and that the crew aboard the Maersk Tigris is not damaged," the ministry said in the statement
